Campaign Kick-off

We are proud to announce we will be formally starting our campaign Saturday Sept. 25 at Antiques Any 204 N. Chadbourne. We think this location is of some signifcance in that the owner "THE" Betty Brown does not smoke, does not allow smoking in her shop but thinks that decision should reside with the business owner, not the government.

Participants are asked to refrain from smoking while in Brown's store, shouldn't be a problem, the event will be short. Please, if you still believe in freedom whether you smoke or not, come and show support for the rights of small business owners.

  2. What a scam.? Shame on Smoke Free San Angelo

I Received an e-mail inviting from Smoke Free San Angelo inviting me to “Rally” to show support for an anti-smoking ordinance in San Angelo When I arrived I was asked to give my name and address and then to hand over twenty dollars or no admittance. One of the greeters at the door had beer can in his hand.

I though I was going to a place to show that the citizens of San Angelo supported an anti-smoking ordinance. I am not interested in participating in night of drinking alcohol or being coned into handing money over to “a non-profit” which demands money from me.

Subject: Press Conference and Rally: Thursday October 14
    Hello All,

We will be hosting a press conference on Thursday October 14 at 11:00 at Zenter's Daughters, 1901 Knickerbocker. It will last for about 30 minutes. Please come show your support for a smoke free San Angelo.

Also later that night we will be hosting a fundraiser and Rally from 7-9:30 pm at Coney Island, 212 S. Chadbourne. Please come help support our cause and show the town we can have fun in a smoke free environment.

Again, we need your support and encourage you all to get to both of these events on Thursday!!!"

below is what I experience when I accepted the invitation ...

When I entered the building I was verbally greeted by a middle aged, dirty blond ,slim white woman who asked me to sign the guest book providing my name and address. After I signed the quest book the same woman said “and now that will be a twenty dollar donation” ( my quote is verbatim.)

A non-profit can request a donation but not demand a donation.
